IMAGINE GETTING KILLED FOR YOUR SKIN

leather.jpg

Lying motionless and covered in "blood" next to a skinned "calf" and underneath a banner that read, "Imagine Getting Killed for Your Skin", PETA activists protested against the cruel leather industry at a demonstration in Bangalore.

Buying leather contributes directly to the misery at slaughterhouses. The vast majority of animals used for their skin suffer horrors such as painful mutilations, deprivation of all that is natural and important to them, physical abuse and cruel treatment during transport and slaughter. Animals killed for their flesh and skin are often dismembered and skinned while they are still conscious. In India, even the most basic animal protection laws are ignored in the leather industry. Leather tanneries also wreak havoc on the environment, and their pollution has been linked to cancer, respiratory infections and other illnesses in humans.

We should shun bags, belts and shoes made of dead skin. It is easy to choose products made of natural fibres like cotton, jute, satin and synthetics – all of which are humane options that do not contribute to cruelty to animals.Synthetic leather and other animal-friendly options are available at just about any major shoe or clothing shop. NLS%20PICTURE.jpg

petaDishoom rocked Strawberry Fields and LE’GALA 07 , the annual college festival of National Law School held during 23rd-25th November in Bangalore. Lawyers-to-be gave a warm welcome to the petaDishoom team. They showed their compassionate side by signing PETA’s petition urging ministers to ban the entry of elephants in urban areas of Maharashtra. We would like to especially thank the student coordinators of NLS: Angshuman, Madhav, Shweta, Anwesha, Riba, and Avantika-- for their hospitality and support.
