John Abraham Lobbies for ‘Dancing’ Monkeys in Mumbai
In a recently held meeting with the Minister of State for Forests, Mr. Babbanrao Pachpute, PETA activist John Abraham spoke up on behalf of the ‘dancing’ monkeys in the city of Mumbai. He illustrated the abysmal conditions under which they were kept and the cruelties meted out to them while they are being forced to perform.
The meeting was called to address the issue of protection of wildlife in the city of Mumbai with the increase in the number of performing animals brought into the city, namely elephants, bears and monkeys. Also present at the meeting was Anuradha Sawhney, Chief Functionary of PETA India, Mike Pandey, Environmentalist and Film Maker, Shree Bagwan, Chief Conservator of Forests, and other government officials.
Moved by the concerns raised, Mr. Babbanrao Pachpute pledged to pass the necessary legislations to ensure that madari-monkeys will not perform within the jurisdiction of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
