McDonalds Goes Vegan

The company known worldwide for its meat burgers and milkshakes, celebrated "Meatout" an annual affair organised by vegetarian advocates, at select outlets in Bangalore and Thane by offering a "Vegan Meal" for two days this week, thanks to the efforts of vegan advocates from Bangalore-based activist group DIYA (Do It Yourself Activists!).
McDonalds Indias Vegan Meal promotion consisted of a regular iced tea and medium fries at the menu price of Rs. 52, which could be used to complete a meal of one of the many McDonalds India vegan main dishes, including McVeggie, McAloo Tikki and Crispy Chinese, which come on a bun and are also egg- and milk-free. Vegan consumers can easily get these delicious veggie burgers with ketchup or chilli sauce instead of mayonnaise and other dairy-based toppings any day of the week. Check out our Foodie section for a list of places to get awesome vegan food.
McDonalds India is not the only company to offer products labelled as "vegan" in India. For example, popular chain Cafe Coffee Day includes a "vegan shake" on its menu which contains no milk or other animal products. Lush India marks many of its soaps with a green "V" to indicate they contain no animal-derived ingredients, and Vicco Vajradanti labels its toothpaste "vegan".
Vegan food is good for animals and many times better for our health than meat. A Vegan Meal is truly a Happy Meal.
Speaking of vegan McDonalds, have you ever heard of Reggie McVeggie? That is apparently Ronald McDonalds compassionate twin brother. No, he is not a McDonalds product, but a product of McVegan , an invention of Vegan Action McVegans motto is "billions and billions saved".

Yet Another Reason to Love Pamela

Pamela Anderson was recently approached by a fan at Elton Johns post Oscars party who was wearing a fur coat. Before the fan could even get near her, Pam reportedly let out a disgusted shriek and ran off. How could such a big fan have missed the fact that Pamela Anderson is completely opposed to the murder of animals for fur?

Luke Kenny is here. This time, as a director!
petaDishoom pal Luke Kenny is passionate about animals, vegetarianism, and films too. Just thought we would let you know that his film, 13th Floor, is out in select places now. The film stars Sandhya Mridul and Purab Kohli. We hear that it was written in what Luke refers to as "Bombay English". That should be fun, especially for you Mumbaiites.

Our Mousey Pal is Drunk With Happiness
Poorva works with us on petaDishoom. Last night, she was walking through the Juhu market, playing with stray dogs, as is her usual evening habit, when a drunk old man, swaying and stuttering and spitting and smelling of cheap whiskey, shoved a mouse into her face, hoping the little creature would scare her so that he could get some weird childish pleasure in watching her run.
Poorva did not run or even flinch. Instead, she grabbed the mouse from the man and tried to calm the mouse in her hands.
The poor little mouse, though clearly domesticated, was shivering with fright and his little heart was thumping so hard, Poorva thought it might thump right out of his little chest if she was not careful. One of his eyes was half shut from infection.
Jayasimha, a PETA campaigner, agreed to give shelter to the mouse for the night at his flat where the little guy nibbled biscuits, drank water, built a nest of shredded paper and made his home in a baby shoe.
PETA will ensure its new little friend receives veterinary care and a home where he has love, company and plenty of space to explore.

Make Out Tour

Now here is something that all vegetarians already know: Vegetarians make better lovers.
It is simple biology. Meat clogs arteries to ALL your organs, not just your heart, which could lead to an embarrassing performance problem.
Eat veggies. Feel alive. Be sexy. Be happy.

Vegans Hanging Out at Baskin Robbins?!?
So last night we went out for Puja's birthday. Who's Puja, you ask? Well that's me!
And we ended up going to Baskin Robbins. You might be wondering what a bunch of vegans were doing there. Handing out leaflets about the cruelties of the dairy industry? Good guess, but no.
We were having ice cream! Surprised? Don't be. At least in India, the Baskin Robbin's Orange Tango sorbet is vegan. So vegan that PETA India has given Baskin Robbins an award for it. Go on, enjoy yourself.
And check out what else is accidentally vegan here.

2Blue is 2Cool
We just got an e-mail from our pal 2Blue, the super talented lead singer of Vayu, asking us what else he can do to help animals. Wow...2Blue is really a star. In fact, we just gave Vayu an award for being the band most active for animals at college fests. Keep checking this site because petaDishoom and Vayu are going to work on a wallpaper together just for you. 2Blue pointed out that we need a new wallpaper for the rocker types. Check out our existing wallpapers though. They do rock, by the way.
Hey, Ravi Iyer's solo album Rocking Ragas is now out, we hear. I'm sure that's definately worth checking out. Who's Ravi Iyer. Um, he is said to be the most technically accomplished rock guitarist in Mumbai today! Remember Witch Hammer? Well now you remember Ravi. And he is now with Vayu.
Vayu fans know where to find them but if you are new and want to check them out (they are always playing somewhere in Mumbai or Pune or elsewhere too), visit http://vayu.co.in/ to learn where to find them.

A Formula One for...Auto-rickshaws?!?!
One of the gals at petaDishoom loves autorickshaws so much that she and her friends decided to make a film about them. Yes...it is hard to believe, but she loves the experience of wind (and pollution) in her hair and the feeling of flying as she bumps along the Mumbai streets in those mean, three-wheeled machines. Perhaps you noticed her odd love for these vehicles. I mean, the big rickshaw on the front page of this site might be a giveaway. She says she uses the time she spends in an autorickshaw to think of new ways to help animals. Now that's time well spent. The film is actually not just about autorickshaws, but about an autorickshaw race. And it is not just any autorickshaw race, but the ultimate autorickshaw racing experience. A Formula One for autorickshaws. The film is actually a documentary and some of the filmmakers involved have also made other videos that will appear on this site. The Swami video is just one of them. Check out the Rickshaaa! film trailer at AFilmOnThreeWheels.com. It's fun, cool stuff.

Tia, Ranveer, Yuvraj, Anvesha
We just met the characters of the Star One show Remix, and they were so sweet! They are even cuter in real life, if that is possible!
Tia (Sweta in real life) looks after stray dogs around their set. She makes sure all the dogs have food and adequate veterinary care. Yuvraj (Raj in real life) told us about how he hates for elephants to be treated badly and Anvesha says she does not like the way animals are abused for the circus. Ranveer (Karan) says he is also totally opposed to cruelty to animals.
Keep checking this site for Remix updates.
